At a depth of 19 metres, the foundation stone for the new building of the Natural History Museum Basel and the State Archives of Basel-Stadt was laid. The words "PRESERVE RESEARCH COMMUNICATE" represent the core tasks of both institutions: the preservation of knowledge, continuous research, and the sharing of insights with the public. The development of the foundation stone involved an in-depth exploration of materials and construction methods to ensure durability and to create a strong symbol of their shared mission.
